How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Without Media technologies, a music video cannot be made. From day 1 i was using the Internet, and sites such as YouTube, to look at many different music videos to research how they was out together and constructed, and from there i posted the videos that interested me most to the website you are on now, Blogger. Also at the start i created a mood board to get the general feel and vibe that i wanted my music video to get across to the viewer; i did this using Glogster.
When actually shooting my music video, i was using a canon handycam video camera, and also to get the lip sinking right, i played the song through i-pod speakers; the song was an mp3
on my i-pod. After filming i uploaded all my footage onto imovie on the Mac, and edited the whole video on there.Harry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-14644028281576202242010-03-31T03:59:00.000-07:002010-03-31T04:07:46.472-07:003. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

From what people have said about my music video, i feel that because i only had one setting for my music video, i should have taken alot more shots from more angles, to justify the fact that there was no storyline going on.
There was debate on whether i should have gone ahead and filmed a storyline aswel as a performance; a few people said that they would have prefered to see a storyline just to give the video a little something extra, BUT on the other hand most people agreed that the video got across the connotaions and ideology of the band that i was going for.

For my digipack i used 3 different images. I realise now how important it is that the images 'go' together, beacause the first 3 images i used where all really nice photos that accentuated the ideology's wanted when they were seperate photos, but unfortunately when you put them all together they just didnt fit, and it didnt do the images or digipack any justice as a whole.Harry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-58470639420105565512010-03-31T03:54:00.000-07:002010-03-31T03:59:07.480-07:002. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

My band are very proud of coming from the east-end of London, its a very gritty, urban enviroment but its 'home' to them. I wanted the band to stick to there routes, so my digipack is largely aimed to look old-fashioned, gritty, rough-around-the-edges, but at the same time quite simple and plain, with one main photograph taht will become there sort of 'icon' in that when you see the image you immediately think of the band.
The poster follows these same rules in that is very simple, hard-hitting and straight to the point. Again using an image of an old record player as there iconic image.Harry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-40903133500046815822010-03-31T03:44:00.000-07:002010-03-31T03:53:59.257-07:00EVALUATION1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Genrally, a standard music video is split into 2 sections; performance and on going storyline. Performance is the artist/band doing what they do best, showing off there musical skills. The performance section is usually very clean cut, maybe with a blank background, performed in a studio space.
The storyline usually follows the connotations of the song lyrics, for example, if it is a song aboiut love and relationships then the storyline section will involve a couple being in love or breaking up; depending on what the song is about.
I feel that my music video challenges these conventions as it is all performance. I did this because i wanted to promote my band as being very 'D.I.Y'; so they are trying to it by themselves and not relying solely on record labels and company's to influence. There whole ideology is to love making, writing and performing there music, so i feel the video is giving there fans what they want to see.Harry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-2048063723178800472010-03-24T05:42:00.000-07:002010-03-24T05:47:52.219-07:00record label ..... i have chosen to sign my band to '1965 records'... they are very DIY record label, signing bands such as The Metros and The Draytones, which are two bands that have a similar image to The Beataphobic. The Subways are an English alternative rock band. Their debut album, Young For Eternity, was released on 4 July 2005 in the UK and February 14, 2006 in the U.S. Their second album, All Or Nothing, was released on 30 June 2008. Although the band have not experienced a great deal of commercial success, they have gained a loyal cult following amongst attendees of the annual Reading and Leeds festivals, in which on each occasion they attracted a crowd big enough to fill the second stage tent beyond capacity, resulting in the band becoming main stage regulars.

lyrics:
"Burst"
I'm in the backroom
A sense of cruelty that you put on me
Another reason
Another chance to work your tease on me
Now, feel the fire at your fingertips
You burst a lot when you smile, when you smile
I can't control myself
I'll wait forever just to see you shine
I can't control myself
Out in the dead light
I'm not afraid and I don't want to stay inside
Fool for a reason
I made mistakes but at least I fucking tried
I'm in the backroom
A sense of cruelty that you put on me
Another reason
Another chance to work your tease on me
Now, feel the fire at your fingertips
You burst a lot when you smile, when you smile
I can't control myself
I'll wait forever just to see you shineHarry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-58249886057709810512009-09-22T02:47:00.000-07:002009-09-25T02:08:10.005-07:00CREATION OF A MUSIC ARTIST- 4 piece band

-name : The Beataphobic

-genre : English alternative rock

-The Beataphobic are a 4 peice band, they are all white british males, three of them are 18 and one is 17.

-The the audience they are trying to attract are males between the ages of 16 and 23, who are into the indie rock music scene, and are interested and follow un-known bands.

-The lead singer and the drummer of the band are brothers, and they met the other 2 members (bassist & guitarist) at 6th form. All of the members played music since a young age, but come from quite poor backgrounds. Its name was first used, as an export label, in 1924, the British and German branches of the Gramophone Company having severed their ties during World War I. Deutsche Grammophon claimed the rights to the His Master's Voice trademark for Germany, where HMV recordings were released under the Electrola trademark. In turn, DGG records exported out of Germany were released on the Polydor label. Deutsche Grammophon lost its rights to the His Master's Voice trademark to EMI and its Electrola label as part of Germany's surrender terms at the end of World War II.

Polydor became a popular music label in 1946 while the famously yellow Deutsche Grammophon seal became a classical music label. Polydor remained Deutsche Grammophon's export label, including classical music, in France and the Spanish-speaking world for the remainder of the long-playing era, as a result of language and cultural concerns.

In the early 1960s orchestra leader Bert Kaempfert signed unknowns Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers - who would later become famous as The Beatles - to Polydor.

Popular German entertainers such as James Last, Bert Kaempfert, Kurt Edelhagen, Caterina Valente and the Kessler Twins appeared on the Polydor label, as well as many French, Spanish and Latin-American figures.

Polydor UK
Though Polydor's American branch is defunct, in the United Kingdom, however, Polydor continues to sign chart-topping acts. In 1993, current Universal chairman Lucien Grainge and A&R supremo Colin Barlow were drafted in from Polygram music to turn the ailing company's fortunes around. The response was almost instant. Grainge and Barlow were successful in creating a new model for the UK music industry, selling millions of copies of debut signings by acts such as Lighthouse Family, and Polydor remains one of the strongest imprints in the country — with artists such as The Courteeners, La Roux, Klaxons, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, James Morrison, Take That, Girls Aloud, Kaiser Chiefs, N-Dubz and Jade Ewen. Slim Shady roams the halls of Popsomp Hills at 3:00 am and violently slaughters members of the staff on duty and warns the audience: "It's 3 a.m. and here I come so you should probably run." The video also premiered on Channel 4 in the UK on the next day.
The single's music video was directed by Joseph Kahn, who also shot "Without Me" from The Eminem Show. The video was filmed in Las Vegas and features star appearances by Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Cynthia Nixon, Kon Artis, Bobby Lee, The Palms hotel owner George Maloof, Melissa Peterman, pornographic actresses Trisha Paytas (playing Jessica Simpson) , Derrick Barry (of America's Got Talent fame) (playing Britney Spears) and Lisa Ann (as Sarah Palin).
The music video is a parody of the TV shows Rock of Love and Star Trek, as well as Eminem singing in a background of an imitation version of the notes of Rock Band (and/ or Guitar Hero) while the casino-based sequence in the video is an homage to the film Rain Man, a film Eminem has previously referenced in his lyrics. The casino scene was shot in The Palms hotel and casino. References to Nanook of the North are also made, especially seen in the scenes with Sarah Palin. On April 3, 2009, Eminem talked about the music video in an MTV News interview, stating that there is some "Celebrity bashing in it," which is often a feature of his album's lead singles. In addition to Sarah Palin, notable celebrities mocked using look-a-like actresses/actors include Jessica Simpson, Bret Michaels, Britney Spears, Kevin Federline, Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Ronson, Amy Winehouse, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Jessica Alba, Elvis Presley, Tony Romo, John Mayer, Jennifer Aniston and Kim Kardashian. Bill O'Reilly of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor deemed the video "crude" for its depiction of Sarah Palin and anti-feminist lyrics, calling Eminem "the lowest form of entertainment." Eminem even spoofed himself, in his Alf t-shirt.

Harry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-43469666808302848212009-07-08T07:33:00.000-07:002009-07-08T07:35:20.140-07:00

December 2005 – ‘when I’m gone’ –
Aftermath/Interscope/Shady

The song is about Eminem's career's effect on his relationship with his wife Kim. It talks about him not being there for his daughter, Hailie, and (in a sort of metaphoric "dream") Hailie confronts him at a concert in Sweden and demands to know why he was so cruel towards Kim (his ex-wife). She ends the confrontation by telling Eminem that he loves his fame, career, and fans more than his own family. After she leaves, Eminem turns around and sees a gun. He picks it up, screams "Die Shady!" and shoots his Slim Shady alter-ego. After that, he wakes up, realizing that it was only a dream. It's spring, Hailie's playing in the yard, and he kisses Kim.
Furthermore, this is a continuation of Marshall's difficulty coping with fame and his dark alter ego, Slim Shady ("When I'm gone just carry on, don't mourn"). "When I'm Gone" is a progression of this dilemma: where does Marshall end, and Shady begin? Who is the dominant alter ego and how does this figure into Eminem the artist and family man? The end of Eminem's dream where Shady shoots himself is similar to the ending of the song "Encore/Curtains Down" off of his album Encore, in which Shady leaves the stage but then comes back, shoots the crowd and then points the gun at his brain and shoots himself (in the clean version the song fades out before the shooting segment begins).
Harry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-7162857299581813372009-07-08T07:32:00.000-07:002009-07-08T07:33:40.195-07:00
February 2003 – ‘sing for the moment’ –
Shady/Aftermath/Interscope

Eminem samples the song "Dream On" by rock group Aerosmith. Mobile Court" sign that appears on the cover of the movie's soundtrack.
It contains scenes focusing on Rabbit's and the real life Eminem's character, for example, the difficulties he has to face while rapping, the insult and booing of crowds as he is a white rapper and the trouble he has to face due to his alcoholic mother and people he hangs out with.
He won a Much Music Video Awards in 2003 for Favourite International Artist with the video for "Lose Yourself”
Harry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-19721697717411921662009-07-08T06:27:00.000-07:002009-07-08T06:28:48.885-07:00

September 2002 – ‘cleanin’ out my closet’ -Shady/Aftermath/Interscope

"Cleanin' Out My Closet“ was from his worldwide hit album, The Eminem Show. "Cleanin' Out My Closet" was the second single released from the album following "Without Me". However, unlike the preceding single Eminem departed from his humorous Slim Shady persona to take observers on a solemn journey into a deeply personal reservoir of fury and pain. It became the second top-ten single from the album, reaching #4 on the United States Billboard Hot 100, also becoming one of his highest-charting singles in his career. In the song, Eminem introspectively examines his life reflecting on such topics as his troubled childhood, marital conflicts, and resentful feud with his mother. Eminem underscores his animosity towards her by chanting a hauntingly sarcastic apology in the chorus, claiming "I never meant to hurt you".
Also in the song, he describes how others protest to his lyrics. He expresses the anger that he feels towards his family and how he is better off without them now, and goes on to reassure his audience that his words regarding his mother are not done for the sake of public attention ("now I would never diss my own mama just to get recognition"). "Cleaning out my closet", he was regarding to taking out his anger.
Eminem also mentions the CD that his mother put out for him called "Set The Record Straight."

Harry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-28992663632364303642009-07-08T06:24:00.000-07:002009-07-08T06:27:23.942-07:00
May 2002 – ‘without me’ –
Aftermath/Interscope – Joseph Khan (director)

It was released as the lead single from his fourth studio album titled The Eminem Show in 2002, and re-released on his greatest-hits compilation album Curtain Call: The Hits in 2005. "Without Me" is one of Eminem's most successful singles. reaching #2 in the U.S. and #1 in many countries worldwide. The music video of the song features a number of scenarios built around its context, including Eminem and Dr. Dre as parodies of comics in general, specifically Batman, Robin and Blade trying to save a child who bought a copy of The Eminem Show that has a Parental Advisory sticker. Eminem and his band of heroes rush to the rescue before the child puts the CD in and he snatches it away from him, and showing that his CD has explicit lyrics. Eminem also appears barefoot throughout some of the video where he is on a hospital bed being pushed through a ward (a reference to ER, which here is called EM drawing from the rapper's stage name). Porn star Jenna Jameson and fitness model Kiana Tom appear in bed with Eminem at the beginning of the video. Eminem also dressed up in various costumes as Osama bin Laden as he is chased by D-12, a TV ad salesman shocking a Dick Cheney-look alike, his mother Debbie Mathers-Briggs (also played by Eminem himself) being flipped off, and Moby getting bodyslammed. The video also features a Lamborghini Murcielago.

Harry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-31043823844579482932009-07-08T06:23:00.000-07:002009-07-08T06:24:40.338-07:00

December 2000 – ‘Stan’-
Aftermath/Interscope – Phil Atwell (director)

"Stan" tells the fictional story of a fan who is obsessed with Eminem and writes to him without receiving a reply. The first three verses are delivered by Eminem as Stan, while the fourth verse is Eminem attempting to write to Stan, only to realize that he had already heard about Stan's death on the news. The music video was directed by Phil Atwell and Dr. Dre in California. It is primarily a visualization of the story the song tells, featuring Canadian actor Devon Sawa as Stan, the obsessive fan,and British pop singer Dido, who sings the chorus, as his pregnant girlfriend. The music video expands on the story told in the song. At the end of the video, a lightning strike illuminates a split-second image of Stan's face staring in through a window at his former idol. There is also an alternate version of the video where Dido's character appears only in her singing cues, not showing her bound and gagged inside Stan's trunk. This was probably edited because of the violent or cruel nature of the scene. However, this version fails to explain what happens to the character afterward. Dido reportedly did not want to do the video at first, as she was uncomfortable with the scene in the video where she had to be tied up and have her mouth covered with duct tape, but later agreed to it and got along well with Eminem and the crew on set.

Harry Norrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303699923286682000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898362717687836049.post-4883783995835206032009-07-08T06:22:00.000-07:002009-07-08T06:23:37.601-07:00

August 2000 – ‘the way I am’ – Aftermath/Interscope Records.

It was the second single from his worldwide hit album, The Marshall Mathers LP. In the tradition of most of Eminem's follow-up singles, "The Way I Am" features a much darker and emotionally driven sound than the album's lead single, in this case "The Real Slim Shady." The music video plays a slow instrumental of his song "Kim", and part of the "Steve Berman" skit (which is the track before this song in the album), and when the song starts, it shows him about to jump out the window of a tall building, and shows him falling through the sky. Other shots show fans coming up to him, asking for his autograph. The song was originally a freestyle between Dr. Dre and Eminem and helped confirm Eminem's musical style. This song features a duel between the two rappers, who are playing the role of the good and evil inside someone's brain in the manner of a medieval morality play (i.e., the "angel and devil on the shoulders" competing for possession of a person's soul). Dr. Dre is the angel; Eminem is the devil. There are also spoken parts and sound effects describing several dilemma scenarios, making the contrast even more interesting by building tension and curiosity.
